Job Summary
Retail Store Manager
Wild Birds Unlimited – Denville, NJ
**Salary: $50,000–$55,000 per year

Full-Time: 32–40 Hours/Week

Schedule: Saturdays & some Holidays required**
Wild Birds Unlimited is seeking an experienced, operationally strong
Retail Store Manager
to lead and optimize daily operations at our Denville, NJ location.

Position Summary
The position of Store Manager reports directly to the store owner while profitably overseeing the daily operations of the store including, sales, inventory management & merchandising. Maintaining consistent high-energy customer experience is paramount. The ideal candidate is an experienced retail leader who thrives in an active, customer-focused small specialty retail environment and has a genuine enthusiasm for nature and wildlife.

Key Responsibilities
Store Operations:

  • Oversees daily store operations and performance

  • Drive sales while managing expenses and profitability

  • Meets regularly with the owner to review results and identify growth and efficiency opportunities

Customer Experience & Sales:

  • Understands that the high energy customer experience is the #1 Priority

  • Utilizes strong selling skills to meet customer needs and drive sales

  • Completes required WBU training modules to become a Certified Bird Feeding Specialist

  • Comfortable wearing WBU logo name badge & logo apparel

Team Leadership & Personnel Management:

  • Communicates policy & procedural changes to staff on timely basis

  • Assists with hiring, training, and coaching new store associates

  • Assists with scheduling and maintaining an effective work schedule

Merchandising & Inventory Management:

  • Reads & understands the WBU Product Information Handbook

  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels and monitors inventory turns

  • Oversees select vendor ordering, receiving, pricing and POS inventory management

  • Assists with direct merchandising, signage, and display updates

Marketing & Community Engagement:

  • Executes marketing initiatives and promotional plans developed in conjuntion with owner

  • Assists with preparing displays, signage, and staffing for events and promotions

Administrative & Financial Control:

  • Ensures accurate cash handling & deposits

  • Maintains organized store and backroom operations

  • Adheres to all policies and procedures related to transactions

Store Maintenance:

  • Ensures the store is clean, organized, and well-presented at all times

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of retail management experience with operational responsibility

  • Demonstrated experience managing sales performance and inventory

  • Strong working knowledge of POS reporting and retail metrics

  • Ability to work well in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

  • Highly organized, disciplined, and detail-oriented

  • Comfortable working in a small business environment with direct owner collaboration

  • Passion for nature, wildlife, or specialty retail preferred.
