Job Description

Software Engineer, Marketplace

  • Compensation:

Up to $275k base + Competitive Equity
  • San Francisco, On-Site

About the Role:

We're building the
first AI-powered recruiter marketplace
—and the numbers speak for themselves: we scaled from $11M to $80M ARR in under a year, with 30% of revenue now driven by our custom AI tooling. We're
backed by $65M from top-tier investors
and the founders of some of the world's most iconic consumer tech companies.

Our platform connects companies with a network of specialized recruiters and AI agents that work together to fill roles faster and more accurately. The companies that used to spend months wrestling with fragmented, expensive hiring processes now do it in weeks—reliably and at scale.

This isn't a role where you wait for specs. You'll have product support and clear priorities, but the execution is yours.

What You'll Do

  • Build the systems and experiences that drive both sides of our marketplace—recruiter supply and hiring manager demand

  • Shape user behavior and engagement by understanding recruiter and hiring manager psychology and building for it

  • Build the systems that onboard new recruiters, ramp them up fast, and maintain quality at scale

  • Own payments, incentive systems, and performance tooling that help recruiters do their best work on the platform

  • Ensure every open role on the platform gets the right recruiter attention—building the distribution and matching logic that makes the marketplace work

  • Identify and automate manual processes that slow down recruiters, hiring managers, and internal ops

Why This Seat

  • 15 engineers,

$80M ARR
—your code punches well above its weight and the impact is immediate and measurable
  • You're building the core of the platform, not a peripheral feature—the marketplace is what makes everything work

  • Product and design support plus clear direction, without micromanagement—ship fast, see real results

  • 8x revenue growth last year with serious momentum and backing from top-tier

investors and operators
  • Series B startup

at exactly the right moment—early enough to matter, funded enough to move fast

You'll Thrive Here If You

  • Have 1–6 years of experience shipping high-quality code in fast-paced environments, with a bias for action over perfection

  • Are

comfortable working across the full-stack
—frontend and backend—with a backend lean of up to 70/30 being fine
  • Have worked at or are deeply familiar with marketplace companies (think Uber, Airbnb, Thumbtack, AngelList) and understand how two-sided platforms actually work

  • Bring strong

TypeScript
and
React
experience and can move fast without sacrificing quality where it matters
  • Are motivated by user impact and business outcomes—you get excited when something you shipped drives a real hiring result

  • Hold a B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical field

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience at a venture-backed early-stage startup

  • Degree from a top 30 CS program

  • Interest in recruiting, hiring technology, or marketplace dynamics

  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases

Must-Haves (Logistics)

  • Based in San Francisco or willing to relocate; on-site full-time

  • B.S. in Computer Science or related technical field required

  • Work authorization in the U.S. (visa sponsorship considered for exceptional candidates)

  • Not a fit for those who prefer deep infrastructure-only work, over-engineering, or slow/methodical environments

Practice Questions

💡Technical Questions (3)
  • 1.How would you design the database schema and matching logic to efficiently distribute open roles to the right specialized recruiters in our marketplace?
  • 2.We need to build an incentive and payments system for recruiters. How would you architect this to ensure accuracy, handle edge cases, and maintain trust on the platform?
  • 3.Given our 70/30 backend lean, how do you approach building a React and TypeScript frontend that seamlessly interacts with complex backend marketplace logic, like real-time recruiter availability?
🎯Behavioral Questions (3)
  • 1.Tell me about a time you had to ship a feature quickly in a fast-paced environment without waiting for perfect specifications.
  • 2.Describe a time you automated a manual process that was slowing down users or internal operations. What was your approach?
  • 3.Give an example of a time you built something that directly shaped user behavior or engagement. How did you ensure it resonated with user psychology?
🧩Situational Questions (2)
  • 1.You notice that a specific category of open roles on the platform is consistently failing to attract recruiter attention. How do you investigate and address this?
  • 2.You are tasked with building a system to onboard new recruiters and ramp them up fast, but you also need to maintain quality at scale. What tradeoffs do you make and what do you build first?
