Our team’s innovative work has led to significant contributions to technologies such as 5G cellular, Wi-Fi, and media compression. At Ofinno, we foster an environment of collaboration and excellence, where researchers can focus on delivering breakthroughs that shape the future of technology.

Position Overview:
Ofinno is seeking a technically skilled and detail-oriented Senior Patent Attorney or Agent to support our Next Generation Wi-Fi team. In this role, you will work closely with inventors to draft, file, and prosecute high-quality patent applications related to Wi-Fi and IEEE 802.11 technologies across U.S. and international jurisdictions.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the development of a world-class patent portfolio in wireless communications.

Depending on qualifications and experience, candidates will be considered for either the Patent Attorney/Agent or the Senior Patent Attorney/Agent role.

Key Responsibilities:
As a (Senior) Patent Attorney or Agent, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with our technical experts and inventors

  • Draft and review Wi-Fi standard-related patent applications

  • Prosecute patent applications globally, with a focus on the USPTO and the EPO

  • Assist in preparing claim charts for standard-essential patents

As part of your application, please submit two writing samples.
The writing samples preferably include:

  • A patent application you wrote in the area of Wi-Fi technology

  • At least one response to a USPTO or EPO Office Action, appeal brief, or Inter Partes Review submission, demonstrating your argumentation skills around novelty and non-obviousness (for example, without relying on substantive claim amendments to overcome a rejection). Please avoid submissions focused primarily on 35 U.S.C.

  • 101 or

  • 112.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field encompassing wireless communications (Master's degree or higher preferred)

  • Active registration to practice before the USPTO (EPO registration is a plus)

  • 4+ years of patent preparation and prosecution experience (2+ years of experience working with wireless technologies preferred)

  • Familiarity with EPO prosecution is a plus

  • Strong organizational skills, technical acumen, and writing ability

  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and ability to collaborate effectively

Practice Questions

💡Technical Questions (3)
  • 1.How do you approach drafting a patent application directed at an IEEE 802.11 standard contribution to ensure it has the potential to become a standard-essential patent?
  • 2.Walk me through your strategy for responding to a USPTO Office Action rejecting a Wi-Fi patent claim based on obviousness, specifically without relying on substantive claim amendments.
  • 3.What are the key differences you account for when prosecuting Wi-Fi patent applications before the EPO compared to the USPTO, particularly regarding novelty and inventive step?
🎯Behavioral Questions (3)
  • 1.Tell me about a time you collaborated closely with a technical expert or inventor to draft a complex patent application for a wireless technology.
  • 2.Describe a situation where you had to overcome a difficult novelty or non-obviousness rejection without making substantive claim amendments.
  • 3.Give an example of a time you had to manage multiple patent prosecution deadlines across different jurisdictions simultaneously.
🧩Situational Questions (2)
  • 1.You are reviewing a draft claim chart mapping one of our Wi-Fi patents to the 802.11 standard, and you notice the technical expert has made a loose correlation between a claim element and the standard specification. How do you handle this?
  • 2.An inventor comes to you with a last-minute idea for a Wi-Fi feature just days before the relevant IEEE standard meeting. How would you approach drafting and filing the application under this tight timeline?
