Job Description

Description
We are looking for an exceptional, hands-on Design & Construction leader to own the end-to-end design and execution. In this role, you will own the vision from concept to physical operations. You will not only be responsible for defining the infrastructure engineering standards and delivering robust design packages, but you will also be tasked with hiring and building the internal team from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to act as both an infrastructure engineering leader and a seasoned design and Construction leader in an advanced setting.

Key job responsibilities

  • Organizational Leadership & Team Building: Recruit, build, and lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team of civil, structural, and architectural engineers and construction managers capable of scaling with the project.

  • End-to-End Design and Execution Ownership: Lead the concept-to-completion lifecycle for the civil, structural, and architectural scopes for new facilities.

  • Design Package Delivery: Own the creation, review, and execution of comprehensive design packages. Seamlessly transition these packages from the engineering phase into physical construction, ensuring strict adherence to design intent.

  • Cross-Functional Integration: Collaborate deeply with internal teams and external trades. Ensure all complex production systems and infrastructure are seamlessly integrated into the facility's structural and architectural design.

  • Vendor and Consultant Management: Direct and manage external partners, including general contractors, subcontractors, architectural firms, and specialized engineering consultants.

  • Regulatory Compliance & Site Strategy: Serve as the primary liaison with local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and permitting agencies to navigate zoning, secure permits, and ensure full compliance with all building codes and environmental regulations.

  • Project Delivery: Drive the project schedule, manage budgets, mitigate execution risks, and resolve complex construction challenges that arise during the design and build phases.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial, industrial, or manufacturing design and construction management.

  • Demonstrated experience hiring, building, and leading internal engineering and construction teams from the ground up.

  • Proven track record of delivering comprehensive design packages and managing large-scale projects throughout their lifecycle.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead external contractors, design consultants, and cross-functional internal stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience managing large-scale, complex design and construction projects from end to end.

  • Deep expertise in advanced facility requirements, particularly regarding vibration control, coordinating complex MEP system integrations.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical executive stakeholders.

  • A proven track record of delivering results in a fast-paced, high-growth environment while demonstrating strong ownership and bias for action.

Practice Questions

💡Technical Questions (3)
  • 1.How do you ensure complex production systems and MEP infrastructure are seamlessly integrated into a facility's structural and architectural design without compromising the design intent?
  • 2.Walk me through your process for developing and delivering a comprehensive design package for a large-scale industrial facility, ensuring it seamlessly transitions into physical construction.
  • 3.Given the advanced setting of our facilities, how do you approach specialized engineering requirements like vibration control and complex MEP coordination in your structural and architectural designs?
🎯Behavioral Questions (3)
  • 1.Tell me about a time you had to recruit, build, and lead a multi-disciplinary engineering and construction team from the ground up. How did you ensure they scaled with the project demands?
  • 2.Describe a situation where you faced a complex construction challenge or significant execution risk during the build phase. How did you mitigate it while maintaining the project schedule and budget?
  • 3.Give an example of a time you had to navigate a difficult regulatory environment or conflict with a local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). How did you secure the necessary permits?
🧩Situational Questions (2)
  • 1.You are managing the design of a new facility, and an internal stakeholder requests a significant change to the production layout late in the design phase. This change impacts the structural design and MEP routing, but the project schedule cannot slip. What do you do?
  • 2.You have just hired a new team of civil, structural, and architectural engineers, but they are struggling to integrate and align on the infrastructure engineering standards you've defined, causing friction with the general contractor. How do you handle this?
