Job Description

🌱 We're hiring an Associate, Corporate Accounting | New York, NY

Are you a CPA with private equity or public accounting roots looking for a high-ownership role at a firm where your work actually matters? This might be the move.

Our client is a fast-growing, SEC-registered investment manager with over $2B in assets under management, founded by some of the most accomplished operators in the industry. They're expanding their Finance team and looking for a sharp accountant who wants to own a process, not just support one.

📌 What you'll own:

• Full monthly close including journal entries, cash reconciliations, capital account allocations, and unaudited financial statements

• Year-end audit coordination with external auditors, start to finish

• All vendor payments for management company and fund expenses, including chargebacks to funds

• FP&A analysis of budget vs. actuals for senior leadership

• Data prep for regulatory filings and annual/quarterly tax reporting

✅ What we're looking for:

• CPA (required)

• Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance

• 3–4 years of corporate accounting at a private equity or hedge fund — or public accounting covering fund clients

• Proven experience coordinating year-end audits with external auditors

• Strong Excel skills and the communication chops to present financials to senior leadership

• Bonus: familiarity with carried interest, management fee revenue, ASC 606, or operating leases

💰 Compensation:

• Base salary: $125,000 – $140,000

• Competitive benefits package

💡 Why this role:

This is a lean, high-caliber team, which means real ownership, real visibility, and a real opportunity to grow with a firm doing meaningful work at scale. If you're a self-starter who wants to be relied on, not managed, we'd love to talk.

Please apply if you meet the requirements!

Practice Questions

💡Technical Questions (3)
  • 1.Walk me through how you would handle capital account allocations and prepare unaudited financial statements for our funds during the monthly close.
  • 2.How do you approach the accounting for management fee revenue and carried interest, particularly in the context of ASC 606?
  • 3.What is your process for managing vendor payments and fund expense chargebacks to ensure accuracy across multiple entities?
🎯Behavioral Questions (3)
  • 1.Tell me about a time you had to coordinate a year-end audit with external auditors from start to finish. How did you ensure it went smoothly?
  • 2.Describe a situation where you presented budget vs. actuals analysis to senior leadership and had to explain a significant variance.
  • 3.This role requires someone who wants to be relied on, not managed. Can you give an example of a time you took full ownership of an accounting process that was previously disorganized or lacking clear ownership?
🧩Situational Questions (2)
  • 1.You are in the middle of the monthly close and notice a significant discrepancy in the cash reconciliation that you cannot resolve immediately. Senior leadership is waiting on the financials. How do you handle this?
  • 2.An external auditor pushes back on your accounting treatment for a specific fund expense chargeback, claiming it should be handled differently. How do you resolve the situation while maintaining a good relationship with the audit team?
