Job Description

Company Description

Amateur (amateur.cc) is a premier multi-brand platform specializing in endurance sports, bringing together top-tier products, renowned brands and vibrant communities. It represents the intersection of performance and culture, catering to athletes and enthusiasts who are passionate about sport and lifestyle.

Role Description

The General Store Manager is an ambassador of the Amateur brand. This is not a traditional role, it's being part of the birth of a new business. A hybrid of product guide, community builder and a trusted voice for customers navigating their endurance journey.

This role sits at the intersection of brand experience, community and retail management. You’ll ensure our first brick and mortar space runs flawlessly day-to-day while building an elevated environment for customers, fans, partners, and guests.

You are equal parts local ambassador and host — someone who obsesses in building local community, thrives in fast-paced environments, and understands that physical spaces are an extension of the Amateur brand.

Responsibilities

Store 001 & Brand Experience

  • Oversee presentation, product display, and brand activation setups.

  • Partner with marketing and founder teams to model the Amateur selling ceremony, execute product launches, host community moments and customer events large and small.

  • Act as on-site point of contact for partners, press, and VIP guests and vendors.

  • Conduct routine outreach in the local community to connect with customers and brand partners.

Site Operations & Facilities

  • Own daily site operations, including inventory receipt, ecommerce order shipping, opening/closing procedures, vendor coordination, supplies, and maintenance.

  • Store operation: Wednesday - Sunday 10:30am - 6:00PM

  • Manage facilities partners (cleaning, security, repairs, utilities, etc.).

  • Oversee space readiness, safety compliance, and workplace standards.

  • Manage site budget, invoices, and reporting.

Workplace Experience

  • Create a welcoming, high-energy workplace experience for employees and visitors.

  • Ensure the space reflects brand standards at all times — visually, culturally, operationally.

People & Coordination

  • Support onboarding logistics for new hires.

  • Help founding teams build playbooks and processes that further our best-in-class service infrastructure in the sporting space.

Product Knowledge & Storytelling

  • Develop a deep understanding of the product assortment (apparel, footwear & accessories)

  • Stay informed on emerging trends in endurance sports, gear and fashion.

  • Communicate the “why” behind the products - The Amateur Take, the brand mix and the curation in the store

  • Share personal insights and lived experiences where relevant

Qualifications (Amateur Traits)

  • Expertise in store management to ensure smooth store operations and minimize risks

  • Genuinely interested in endurance sports (running, cycling, triathlons / similar)

  • Comfortable speaking with a wide range of people - from beginners to seasoned athletes.

  • Detail oriented and able to keep a clean and well visual-merchandised environment.

  • Curious, observant and a good listener

  • Able to communicate clearly and authentically without being over technical

  • Positive, reliable and team oriented

We’d love to see

  • A real connection to sports & the products that support it

  • A desire to help others find their own way into endurance - the path towards progress is personal

  • The ability to translate enthusiasm into trust

  • Good taste in music

Compensation

$60k Base Salary + Bonus + Employee discount

Practice Questions

💡Technical Questions (3)
  • 1.How would you approach managing the daily site operations, including inventory receipt and ecommerce order shipping, while still ensuring the store feels like an elevated community hub rather than a traditional retail space?
  • 2.Walk me through how you would develop a deep understanding of our product assortment and translate that into the 'Amateur Take' for a customer who is a beginner in endurance sports.
  • 3.This role requires managing a site budget, invoices, and facility partners like cleaning and security. How do you ensure these backend operations stay flawless without distracting from your role as a local ambassador and host?
🎯Behavioral Questions (3)
  • 1.Tell me about a time you built a local community around a brand or product from the ground up. What was your approach and what was the outcome?
  • 2.Describe a situation where you had to manage a high-profile event or VIP guest visit while simultaneously handling day-to-day store operations. How did you balance the two?
  • 3.Give me an example of a time you used your personal lived experience in sports or a hobby to build trust with a customer or client who was navigating a new challenge.
🧩Situational Questions (2)
  • 1.It’s a busy Saturday afternoon, the store is full of customers, and a delivery of a highly anticipated product launch arrives. You are the only manager on duty. How do you handle this?
  • 2.A seasoned triathlete comes into the store and starts questioning the curation of our products, implying our selection is more about fashion than true performance. How do you respond authentically without being over-technical?
