Job Description

Welcome to HotDoc!

Founded in Melbourne, Australia in 2012, 1 in 3 patients use HotDoc making it Australia's largest patient engagement platform.

The past 18 months have seen massive growth for our business, our team, and our community. We now work with over 24,000 practitioners around Australia, including GPs, Allied Health, Dental Practices, Specialists, and Optometrists.

We have ambitious goals to improve the patient experience for everyone in Australia through exceptional journeys managed on our platform, and we're looking for extraordinary people to help us get there.

Role Purpose & Context

At HotDoc, our mission is to enable the best possible patient experience for everyone in Australia. The Marketplace Product Manager reports to the VP of Product and leads product management for our Marketplace squad. This team is responsible for how patients find, choose, and connect with practitioners — growing and shaping the core marketplace experience that sits at the heart of how HotDoc creates value.

Your squad works across search, discovery, matching, and commercial marketplace products. Together, you'll own the roadmap: optimising how patients find the right care, how practitioners attract the right patients, and how HotDoc builds sustainable commercial value through the marketplace.

Unique value of the role

This role sits at the intersection of marketplace dynamics, commercial thinking, and product craft. You'll spend your time understanding what drives liquidity in HotDoc's marketplace — how to match patients who have a specific health need to the practitioners best placed to help them — and designing products that create genuine value on both sides of that connection.

You'll need to be comfortable with ambiguity, commercially astute, and confident in your product instincts. Strong UX sensibility is essential — you'll shape the product experience, prototype ideas, and set a high bar for design quality. And you'll be expected to be AI-first in how you work, using AI tools as a default part of your discovery, analysis, and delivery workflow.

Why Join HotDoc?

HotDoc is at an exciting inflection point. We're moving beyond core bookings into a richer experience on our app.

This is a chance to own our marketplace strategy, shaping how millions of Australians find healthcare, and building products that directly contribute to both better patient outcomes and HotDoc's commercial success. You'll have autonomy to help define the roadmap, the trust to make bold calls, and the support of a product and engineering leadership team that's deeply invested in the success of our customers.

You'll thrive here if you love the puzzle of helping patients match with more practitioners, enjoy building products with both user and commercial value, and want to work at the intersection of healthcare and technology.

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Own and evolve the roadmap for the Marketplace squad, balancing search and discovery improvements, commercial product development, and marketplace health metrics.

  • Lead the delivery of commercial marketplace products from discovery through to launch, navigating technical trade-offs with engineering and making clear prioritisation calls.

  • Define and scope the next generation of search experience, moving towards natural language and intent-oriented search that helps patients find the right care — including by specialty, service, and practitioner attributes — not just the nearest available appointment.

  • Drive marketplace liquidity by understanding and optimising supply and demand dynamics across practitioner verticals.

  • Own the Marketplace squad's strategy and execution by defining how the team delivers against its goals, setting the direction, and driving accountability for outcomes.

  • Shape the product experience across marketplace surfaces, from prototyping concepts to setting a high bar for design quality and ensuring a cohesive patient experience.

  • Champion an AI-first product development approach by using AI tools across research, analysis, prototyping, and delivery as a default, and helping the squad adopt these practices.

What You Must Have to Apply for This Role

  • 3+ years in product management with at least 2 years focused on open marketplace products.

  • Demonstrated experience with marketplace liquidity, supply/demand dynamics, and search or discovery products.

  • Strong commercial acumen — such as experience with pricing, monetisation, or revenue-generating product features.

  • Strong UX sensibility and comfort leading design decisions.

  • An AI-first approach to product work: you actively use AI tools across your workflow.

  • First principles thinking and comfort with rapid pace and ambiguity.

  • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to state and defend your views.

  • (Bonus) Healthcare or healthcare technology experience.

  • (Bonus) Experience with featured listings, promoted placements, or marketplace advertising products.

You're Just the Person We're Looking For If You Can Demonstrate That

  • You are deeply curious about marketplace dynamics and love understanding what makes supply and demand tick.

  • You care whether patients with specific health needs can find the right care, and can bring that passion to your product decisions.

  • You have a strong sense of empathy and a commitment to doing the right thing by others.

  • You take a proactive approach to problem-solving, with a willingness to take ownership and see solutions through to completion.

  • You have the confidence to challenge the status quo and advocate for thoughtful, constructive change.

  • You move fluidly between qualitative and quantitative thinking — as comfortable in a user research session as in a data dashboard — and know when to leverage each.

  • You actively explore and adopt AI tools in your own work and are excited about helping teams do the same.

  • You have a commercial instinct, and you understand that in a well-designed marketplace, the business model and the user outcome aren't competing priorities — they're the same thing.
