Practice Questions

💡Technical Questions (3)
  • 1.Walk me through your approach to drafting a patent application for a complex AI or machine learning invention, specifically how you ensure the claims are broad enough to be valuable yet defensible against prior art.
  • 2.How do you handle a final Office Action where the examiner maintains a 35 U.S.C. § 101 rejection on a software or AI-based invention, arguing it is an abstract idea?
  • 3.Given the requirement to manage prosecution matters with minimal supervision, how do you ensure your docket and workflow remain organized when handling a large volume of U.S. and international patent applications?
🎯Behavioral Questions (3)
  • 1.Tell me about a time you had to translate a highly complex technical invention from an engineering team into a strong patent protection strategy.
  • 2.Describe a situation where you had to manage a difficult client relationship or an unresponsive inventor while working independently on a tight prosecution deadline.
  • 3.Give me an example of a time you identified a strategic IP opportunity for a client that went beyond simply responding to an immediate Office Action.
🧩Situational Questions (2)
  • 1.You are reviewing a new invention disclosure for a wireless communication system, and you realize the inventors have only described a specific use case, but the core innovation could apply much more broadly. The inventors are busy and hard to reach. How do you proceed?
  • 2.You are working remotely and encounter an unexpected legal issue in a foreign jurisdiction for a client's patent application, an area you are not an expert in. How do you handle this while maintaining a solutions-oriented mindset?
