Job Description

The General Counsel will lead all legal and compliance matters, providing expert guidance on corporate governance, compliance, and risk management. This role requires a strategic thinker with hands-on approach to managing a small team, outside counsel and providing guidance on varied legal matters.

Our client is a well-established and respected organization within the industrial/ manufacturing industry. As a large, publicly traded organization, they are dedicated to delivering legal, compliance and risk management counsel to the company President, senior leadership team and wider business.

Description

Varied responsibilities for the General Counsel include:

  • Providing hands-on and strategic legal counsel to the company President, senior leadership team and business stakeholders.

  • Ensure a healthy culture of robust compliance with federal, state, and local laws as well as industry regulations.

  • Overseeing corporate governance matters.

  • Managing a small legal and compliance team who largely handle day-to-day contract management.

  • Manage outside counsel on complex matters (e.g. litigation when needed).

  • Oversee and advise on risk management strategies to protect the organization.

  • Lead, mentor and develop the legal team to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

  • Collaborate with other departments to support business objectives while mitigating legal risks.

  • Remote role with some domestic travel and occasional international travel.

Profile

The successful General Counsel will have demonstrable background:

  • A US law degree and admission to the bar.

  • Extensive knowledge of corporate law, compliance, and risk management ([referably in the industrial/ manufacturing industry).

  • The ability to provide strategic legal advice to senior leadership teams.

  • Strong leadership and team management experience.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
