Job Description

About The Role
A well-funded fintech company is building out its early-stage finance function in New York City and looking for a sharp, ambitious Finance Analyst or Associate to work directly alongside executive leadership. This is a rare opportunity to be one of the first finance hires on the ground — sitting alongside the CFO from day one, with broad ownership across budgeting, forecasting, investor reporting, and operational finance. If you want to shape a finance function from scratch at a fast-growing fintech, this role is for you.

What You'll Do

  • Partner directly with the CFO and collaborate closely with the CEO office on day-to-day finance operations

  • Prepare investor reporting packages and materials for board meetings

  • Lead budgeting and forecasting efforts to support strategic growth planning

  • Execute operational finance work required to run a scaling fintech business

  • Help design and implement finance processes grounded in lean principles and AI-enabled tooling

  • Take broad ownership of finance initiatives across the organization

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 1–4 years of experience in finance, FP&A, or a closely related field

  • Strong financial modeling skills and advanced Excel proficiency

  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning

  • Experience preparing investor reporting and board materials

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with C-suite executives and cross-functional teams

  • Low ego, high ambition, and a collaborative mindset

  • Strong academic background and solid finance fundamentals

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

  • Located in New York City or willing to relocate

Nice To Have

  • Experience in fintech, startup, or high-growth scale-up environments

  • Familiarity with lean principles and AI-enabled finance processes

Practice Questions

💡Technical Questions (3)
  • 1.Walk me through your approach to building a financial model for a well-funded, early-stage fintech that currently has limited historical data.
  • 2.How do you determine the right level of detail to include in an investor reporting package versus an internal board deck?
  • 3.Clera wants to implement lean principles and AI-enabled tooling in its finance function. How would you practically apply these to our monthly financial close and reporting process?
🎯Behavioral Questions (3)
  • 1.Tell me about a time you had to build a finance process or function from scratch. How did you ensure it was scalable?
  • 2.Describe a situation where you had to present bad news or a significant budget variance to a C-suite executive. How did you handle it?
  • 3.Give an example of a time you worked cross-functionally with a non-finance team to achieve a shared goal. How did you bridge the communication gap?
🧩Situational Questions (2)
  • 1.You are preparing the board deck for the upcoming meeting and the CEO asks you to include a highly optimistic revenue projection that the CFO hasn't approved yet and that differs from your forecast. What do you do?
  • 2.It's your first month at Clera, and you notice the current budgeting process is entirely manual, taking weeks of consolidating emails and offline spreadsheets. The CFO asks you to take the lead on next quarter's forecast. How do you approach it?
