Job Description

Job Title – Metering & Controls Engineer (Revenue Metering)

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Deer Valley area) — Hybrid/Flex (typically 2 days onsite/week)

Duration – 6–12 months (possible extension/conversion)

Pay Rate - $45 – 75/hr.

Schedule: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM–3:30 PM (40 hrs/week)

Travel:
Light (approx. 2–3 days/month; mostly day trips)

Pay Rate (based on level):

  • Engineer II:

$45–$50/hr.
  • Engineer III:

$50–$55/hr.
  • Senior Engineer:

$55–$75/hr.
  • Driving Requirement:

Driving record screening required (role involves driving a company vehicle)

Overview

Dexian is supporting a utility client in Phoenix, AZ seeking a
Metering & Controls Engineer (Engineer II–Senior level)
to support
substation-level revenue metering (12kV and above)
with a focus on
interconnections for large customers and clean energy projects (including BESS)
. This is a newly created contract role due to increased volume/complexity of renewable and interconnection work.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, configure, and implement

revenue metering solutions
for interconnection, PPA, and large customer projects (including renewables).
  • Create metering

philosophy documents
,
high-level schematics
, and
SCADA-related drawings
.
  • Perform detailed drawing reviews at project milestones (30/60/90/IFC).

  • Configure meters

, develop installation and
loss compensation
settings, and partner with the meter shop on
test plans/calibration
.
  • Support project execution and

site commissioning
, including troubleshooting billing accuracy issues and performing field/site visits.
  • Act as a technical SME for complex metering scenarios, collaborating with customers, project teams, and controls engineering.

Required Qualifications (non-negotiable)

Education + experience (based on level):

  • Engineer II:

Bachelor’s in an approved Engineering/applied science discipline (ABET/IEA/MRA) +
2+ years
engineering experience
  • Engineer III:

Bachelor’s +
5+ years
engineering experience
  • Senior Engineer:

Bachelor’s +
8+ years
engineering experience

And:

  • Hands-on experience with

revenue metering systems
(configuration, testing, commissioning).
  • Strong knowledge of

regulatory standards/compliance
for utility metering.
  • Ability to independently solve complex metering challenges and provide technical guidance.

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Utility industry experience (substation, interconnection, large customer metering).

  • SCADA experience and high-level metering schematics.

  • Familiarity with

Schneider PowerLogic / ION
metering platforms.
  • PE license

  • Experience with renewable energy / DER interconnections.
