Job Description

Description
The Civil Engineer will support water, wastewater, and site/civil infrastructure projects through advanced civil design and engineering calculations for both Municipal and Industrial clients. This role requires strong hands-on expertise in Autodesk Civil 3D for developing surfaces, grading, alignments, profiles, corridors, and pipe networks, as well as producing plan and profile sheets and coordinating utilities. The engineer will also perform essential engineering calculations including cut/fill balancing, stormwater modeling, culvert and trench sizing, and pipeline sizing. A solid understanding of engineer drawings, industry standards, and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams while meeting project deadlines is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Develop civil site designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, conveyance pipelines, and associated site improvements.

  • Model and design surfaces, grading, alignments, profiles, corridors, and pressure/gravity pipe networks using Autodesk Civil 3D.

  • Prepare plan and profile drawings, general civil sheets, and support construction drawing packages.

  • Perform civil engineering calculations including cut/fill analysis, trench design, culvert sizing, stormwater modeling (StormCAD or CivilStorm), and pipeline/line sizing.

  • Perform basic hydraulic and drainage-related calculations, such as cover checks, slopes, trenching details, and minor stormwater layout support.

  • Coordinate utility layouts and integrate inputs from process, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.

  • Produce high-quality construction drawings, details, and civil design deliverables in accordance with project standards.

  • Conduct self-checks and quality reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance with design requirements.

  • Collaborate closely with US-based project managers and engineers to support design development and maintain project schedules.

  • Ensure designs meet applicable US codes, standards, and project requirements.

  • Demonstrate initiative, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to self-check work for accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from a recognized institution.

  • Minimum 1–10 years of experience in civil design for water/wastewater or site/civil infrastructure projects.

  • Candidates with fewer years of experience should demonstrate strong communication skills, solid technical fundamentals, and the ability to learn and apply Civil 3D workflows quickly.

  • Working knowledge of US codes and standards.

  • Proficient in Civil 3D, StormCAD, Civil Storm, ESRI ArcOnline, and Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote).

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Good Communication skills in English (verbal & written).

What Makes You a Great Fit?

  • Learning attitude and seeking guidance from Seniors

Practice Questions

💡Technical Questions (3)
  • 1.Can you walk me through your process for designing a gravity pipe network and creating plan and profile sheets in Autodesk Civil 3D?
  • 2.How do you approach stormwater modeling for a water or wastewater treatment facility site using StormCAD or CivilStorm?
  • 3.When performing cut/fill analysis and grading for a pump station site, what key factors do you consider to ensure proper drainage and earthwork balance?
🎯Behavioral Questions (3)
  • 1.Tell me about a time you had to coordinate utility layouts with other disciplines, such as process, structural, or mechanical, on a civil infrastructure project.
  • 2.Describe a situation where you caught a significant error in your own engineering calculations or design during a self-check. How did you handle it?
  • 3.Give an example of a time you had to quickly learn a new technical skill or software workflow, like a specific Civil 3D feature, to meet a project deadline.
🧩Situational Questions (2)
  • 1.You receive conflicting design inputs from a US-based project manager and a process engineer regarding the layout of a conveyance pipeline. The deadline is approaching. How do you resolve this?
  • 2.You are performing a cover check on a trench design for a gravity sewer and realize the pipe has insufficient cover to meet US standards, but raising the profile would cause a conflict with an existing utility. What is your next step?
