Job Description

The position is responsible for providing safety and security throughout the campus. Campus police officers handle calls for service and law enforcement while maintaining a constant visible patrol presence.

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is $52,686.00/Yr ($25.32/hour).

  • Patrol assigned campus areas, secure and grant access to buildings, answer police service requests, and arrest offenders when necessary.

  • Be courteous and orderly when interacting with the university community and the public.

  • Prepare police reports and other job-related forms.

  • Focus on crime prevention and investigation, safety education, and emergency preparedness, response, and recovery during patrol.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of District of Columbia laws related to law enforcement and the protection of life and property.

  • Investigate criminal and non-criminal activities on CUA property.

  • Conduct investigations of vehicle accidents that occur on CUA property.

  • Investigate complaints regarding sick or injured individuals on campus.

  • Safeguard all property that comes into their possession according to university and departmental guidelines.

  • Respond as directed to emergencies, alarm breaks, and fire alarms.

  • Control traffic and enforce traffic regulations while on patrol.

  • Note and report items that need attention, like broken windows or lights that are out.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

  • Must be able to obtain a Special Police commission in the District of Columbia

  • Must be capable of canying out police-related tasks

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Possession of a current and valid U.S. driver's license appropriate to the type of university vehicle and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Driving Record (MVR) as stipulated in the Vehicle Guidelines and Procedures Manual administered through the Environmental Health and Safety office. Annual clearance ofMVR check through the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
