Job Description

Area Manager (NYC Metro OR Chicago)

Reports to:
Director of Retail

Role Overview

At Mavi, denim is more than fabric — it’s a lifestyle built on confidence, connection, and creativity. As we continue to grow across the U.S., we’re looking for an Area Manager who embodies our values and leads with passion, authenticity, and agility.

In this role, you’ll ensure our stores deliver an exceptional Mavi experience — one that’s customer-first and operationally strong. You’ll coach, train, and empower Store Managers and their teams to perform at their best, all while supporting Mavi’s strategic and sustainable growth in the U.S. market.

You’ll partner closely with our Retail Director and cross-functional teams in Human Resources, Marketing, Visual Merchandising, and Operations to drive performance, optimize operations, and bring Mavi’s story to life — from our denim craftsmanship to the personal connections we build with every customer. You’re not just a leader — you’re a coach, a culture driver, and a brand ambassador who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire Store Managers across your district to achieve operational excellence, elevate the customer experience, and deliver on KPIs and growth goals.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally (Marketing, Operations, Visual Merchandising, etc.) to align on strategies that drive performance and brand consistency.

  • Partner with Store Managers and HR to oversee sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding of retail staff, ensuring timely and effective hiring to meet store needs.

  • Stay agile and forward-thinking — identifying trends, challenges, and opportunities to evolve as Mavi expands its U.S. retail footprint.

  • Support NSO (New Store Openings): lead training, ensure operational readiness, and infuse Mavi culture into every new location.

  • Deliver brand and product training that deepens team connection to the Mavi lifestyle and enhances product storytelling on the floor.

  • Reinforce SOPs and operational standards; provide feedback and insights to help evolve systems and tools.

  • Analyze sales, returns, and KPIs; translate results into actionable plans with Store Managers to drive performance and celebrate wins.

  • Coach and develop Store Managers to lead with empathy, accountability, and a customer-first mindset.

  • Manage staffing, scheduling, and time and attendance to maintain efficient operations and support strong team morale.

  • Oversee inventory management and internal systems to support smooth day-to-day operations.

  • Approach challenges with a solutions-driven mindset, staying adaptable and positive while balancing multiple priorities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Fashion/Fashion Marketing, or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience overseeing multiple stores in a district leadership role.

  • Proven success in store openings (NSO), training, and developing high-performing teams.

  • Outlet retail experience preferred.

  • Experience driving performance through collaboration, accountability, and values-based leadership.

  • Data-driven, analytical, and deeply familiar with retail metrics and operational best practices.

  • Tech-savvy, with proficiency in Shopify, Microsoft Suite, and other retail-related platforms.

  • Agile and adaptable, able to pivot quickly as Mavi continues expanding across the U.S.

  • Supportive and empowering leader who inspires trust, collaboration and positivity.

  • Customer-obsessed and passionate about creating an authentic, connected Mavi experience.

  • Confident communicator who bridges the gap between teams and leadership.

  • Brand enthusiast who lives and breathes denim and believes in genuine customer connections.

  • Available for a flexible retail schedule (including weekends, evenings, holidays, and travel as required).

  • Able to work on your feet up to 8 hours/day and lift up to 40 pounds in a retail environment.
