Job Description

Accounting Manager - FinTech

The Company

A fast-growing Chicago-based FinTech startup in the payments space

The Role

First dedicated accounting hire. You'll build the accounting function from scratch—owning the books, the tools, and the processes that will scale with the company. Reports directly to Finance leadership.

What You'll Own

  • Run the full accounting cycle (close, reconciliations, GL)

  • Select and implement the company's accounting tech stack (ERP, close, expense tools)

  • Stand up internal controls and lead prep for the first external audit

  • Handle tax and regulatory compliance

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc financial analysis

What You Bring

  • 3–5 years at a Big 4 firm, ideally with tech or high-growth clients

  • CPA (or actively pursuing)

  • Strong technical chops, especially around revenue recognition

  • Experience implementing accounting systems (NetSuite, Intacct, QuickBooks, etc.)

  • Comfortable building from zero—you like ambiguity and ownership

🎯Behavioral Questions (3)

🧩Situational Questions (2)
  • 1.It's your first month on the job and you realize the company has been incorrectly recognizing revenue for its payment fees since inception. The CEO wants to wait until the audit to address it. What do you do?
  • 2.You are implementing a new ERP system and the VP of Sales is frustrated because the new revenue recognition module requires them to change how they input contract data, which they feel slows down their process. How do you handle this?
